Remainder of the course will take place this summer. Dates are TBA. Sports Diver Syllabus
The following open water lessons will be held on the open water days: SO1 - Diver Rescue SO2 - Use of SMB SO3 - Simulated Decompression SO4 - Compass Navigation/DSMB deployment SO5 - Dive Leading/Basic Skills Review There is also SP1 - Assistant Dive Manager, which will probably be held at an open water site on the day of the training. Ocean Diver Syllabus
In addition to the lectures and pool sessions there will be 5 open water dives required to make up your Ocean diver skills. Pool sessions – IMPORTANT I appreciate that the starts of pool sessions are often slow, so the following changes will take place; If you intend to train on a Monday evening, you must contact Rob W. by e mail or phone by the Saturday beforehand to tell him so. If you do not receive acknowledgement of your e mail he will not have received it so phone him. You can make this booking the week before at the club. If you do not book into training you will be the last to be allocated kit by an instructor. These changes are intended to make the sessions more efficient for everyone as Rob can plan the training ahead of time. Please turn up early and get set up. Owning your own mask, fins, snorkel and weights speeds things up. Remember Club kit is allocated first to try divers, followed by new and inexperienced members. Please try to start investing in your own kit; good second-hand kit or the Dive Show are good places to start and we can help you decide what to buy. Cylinders Only the payment of £2 IN ADVANCE will secure you a cylinder. Please don’t put empty cylinders back in the store. If there is less than 70 bar at the end of your session, please place the cylinder near the pool exit. Volunteers are always required to carry kit/cylinders outside at the end of pool sessions. Anybody willing to take a few cylinders to fill now and again will be warmly thanked, pointed in the direction of a local dive shop and reimbursed for the cost of the air fills (ensure you get a receipt for the fills), otherwise it tends to be the same poor sods (me included) doing it every week. Faulty Equipment Please don’t put kit back if it is not working correctly. It is dangerous. Bring it to the attention of the Pool Marshall. Open Water Training Days3rd/4th May (Sat/Sun) Rob/Rita 31st May/1st June (Sat/Sun) Michele 24th June (Tue) Rob Please inform Rob Wilkins as soon as possible if you wish to attend. See Below: How to Book To sign up for a training session, please contact Rob W. ASAP. You will need to give him a cheque for £20 per day for each day you wish to train, dated for the day of the trip. If you turn up your cheque will be returned to you, otherwise it will not. Please book on NOW so that Rob doesn’t thank instructors for offering their time and release them to go and do something else instead. Rob can provide a list of kit you will need for the trip. Make sure if you hire club kit it is working correctly (best to borrow the kit you used in the pool) and also make sure the cylinder is in test (your responsibility). We are unlikely to be able to put things right on the day. Please set up kit before the trip to test it out and also set up your weight belt beforehand. This saves YOUR training time. You will have noted we have few weights/weight belts in the Club. These are relatively inexpensive to buy, as dive kit goes, and will save you huge inconvenience in constantly changing things around. See Rob W, for advice on purchasing your own. If you do not have other items of kit this is your chance to ask other members to lend you bits of kit. Most will oblige, but do ensure they get it back. Lifts to the training site are your responsibility, but there are usually people offering lifts and willing to share petrol. Ask Rob early. Equipment and Organisation If you are going on a training day, please be at the pool on the Monday prior to the training day:
With the exception of cylinders, the equipment is hired out at £4 per item per day. Cylinder hire is per cylinder, per weekend as per the table below:
Take empty means a cylinder with less than 150 bar. Return full means a cylinder with more than 200 bar. _______________________________________________________________________ Previous Courses |
