Swanage
3/4 October (next weekend) is our dive trip to Swanage. Please contact Anne as soon as possible to arrange your place on the dive.
This is designed for Ocean Divers but we need Sports Divers to buddy them up. This will be a cheap week end - diving around the pier is free and if people are happy then there is a shallow wreck, the fleur de lis which is teeming with fish. We can organise more challenging dives for Sports. Costs would be for accommodation, food and getting there and back.
Micky's Lecture
On the 12th of October, Micky Gee will be giving and informal lecture and discussion about safe diving, knowing your limits and deeper diving techniques.
This will be a great opportunity to learn from one of our club's most experienced (and humorous!) divers

Lochaline trip
"We had another great club weekend in Lochaline (near Oban). There were plenty of wrecks and some scenic dives which made for a great weekend in beautiful surroundings. We'll definitely be back there next year for another trip so start saving your pennies. The weather was perfect and there were surface sightings of seals and porpoises as well as lots to see underwater. Off the boat there was excellent food (especially by our own team of master chefs) and some unusual highland seduction techniques in the local pub."
New Qualifications
Congratulations to Richard and Tom who completed their Dive Leader training on the trip so are both qualified Dive Leaders now. This is great encouragement to the rest of us as the club is stronger with each new qualification.
Last dives of the season, next years' dives
Dover booked for Sunday 11th October
Anne needs definite commitments for Swanage for the weekend 3/4 October. This is designed for Ocean Divers but I need Sports Divers to buddy them up. This will be a cheap week end - diving around the pier is free and if people are happy then there is a shallow wreck the fleur de lis which is teeming with fish. We can organise more challenging dives for Sports as long as they give the Ocean divers some of their time. Costs would be for accommodation, food and getting there and back. I will look for caravan or house rental to save accom costs.
Also Lochaline Dive centre in West Scotland has been booked for Sept 10/11/12 in 2010 costs are : 3 x £35 per 2 dives a day on a spacious hard boat, plus 3 x £25 for b and b. This year 3 people sharing the driving cost us £50 each in petrol. £100 deposit to secure a place, cheques made out to HSAC
Try Dive Night
We have a big try dive night on the 5th October, so if you have a friend who's curious - invite them along.

Dover dive success
This weekend was another Dover dive which seemed to be enjoyed by all who went along. In particular one lucky club member found a rather impressive brass fitting of a type used on the Titanic, treasures from the deep!
New dive trip 3-4 October (especially good for new divers)
Anne is trying to arrange another trip (possibly to Swanage) on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of October. It's likely to be a great trip, especially for those new members (trainees who just completed or are very near to completing their Ocean Diver training) who have not yet been along on a club dive. Contact Anne if you are interested (there might be a short delay in responding to mail as she is having email problems).
Try dive promotion
BSAC is trying to promote try dives right now to recruit new members and HSAC is part of that promotion. If you know anyone who might like try diving you could encourage them to come along in the next few weeks or point them at this web page
http://www.bsac.com/page.asp?section=1527§ionTitle=Try+Dive+with+BSA...
Advertising the club
As part of our attempts to recruit more members we're planning to leave a few copies of the BSAC magazine in doctors' and dentists' waiting rooms with stickers advertising the club. If you can spare a few recent copies of the magazine in good condition then please contact me.

Cylinders reminder
Please don't forget to give Liz, or whoever is managing the cylinders on pool night, £3 for air money when you're using an HSAC cylinder when training and/or practising in the pool. It all goes towards helping the club, and would save Liz chasing you around the pub later.
Sports Diver Lecture SD6
Caron will be doing sports diver lecture SD6 (Going Diving) at 8:30 at 18 Victoria Park Square. Don't forget to let Caron or Jo know before the weekend if you're going to the lecture (otherwise we might assume that nobody is going to turn up and cancel it).
Place on Dover Dive available
Free place on the Dover dive on Saturday 5th September. It is 8.30am on the boat. The dives are 30m plus so suitable for sports divers. The cost is £40. If you are interested then ring Anne.
Another Dover dive planned
A new Dover date is in the calendar for 11th October and taking bookings now. Ring Anne while places last.
Weekly News Letter - 27th August 2009
Bank Holiday
No pool session this week since it is a bank holiday on 31st and the pool is closed. If anyone needs club cylinders for the Dover dive call Will.
Pool training reminder
A reminder for people who want to do training in the pool that they should contact Jo beforehand (preferably before the weekend) to ensure an instructor is available. It's very hard to meet training needs if we're never sure how many people will show up on a Monday evening.
Open water Training
On the subject of training, Jo is organising another open water training weekend on 19th and 20th of September. So far Jo, Lindy and Harriet are signed up. Anyone still needing a few last things signed off for their Ocean or Sport diver? Any other instructors able to go along? Let Jo know if you want to help or want training.
Farnes trip
The Farnes trip only had a few divers but was very successful with seals in abundance and some great photographs taken. No wonder the Farnes is one of the club's favourite dive locations.
Weekly News Letter - 20th August 2009
Ocean Diver Lecture
Lecture OD5: GOING DIVING - will be taught by Richard at 8:30 poolside.
Dover Trip 5th Sept
A reminder for the following people that they are on the Dover trip which is on Sat 5th Sept:

Good Luck Iain!
Good luck to Iain who is off on his travels. Next monday is his last day at the club before he heads off.
Last dives of the season
Anne will be booking some more dives for late Sept and October.
So far there has been much talk of pier diving at Brighton or Swanage, which would be suitable for Ocean Divers. If you're interested, email Anne.
Are there any other suggestions? another Dover ?

Weymouth dive trip!
An excellent weekend of diving in Weymouth. Three very different wrecks were explored (the St Dunstun an early twentieth century dredger, Aeloian Sky a modern freighter and the Black Hawk a very broken up liberty ship) as well as a lovely drift dive with dozens of scallops. We had clear vis and on the second day, a warm sun and very calm seas. There were congers, huge lobsters and crabs, dogfish, some big colourful wrasse (ballan and cuckoo -- with the male cuckoo in their breeding colours), huge shoals of pout and pollack and even a ray -- in fact all three wrecks were teeming with life. Weymouth now has rather fewer scallops as a result of our efforts. The Dive Time was (as ever) a brilliant boat to dive from especially for their famous soups:
